Cable Testing - Medium & High Voltage

Our cable test set is a portable off-line condition assessment measurement technique for testing and analysing partial discharge activity and dissipation factor (tan delta) in medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) installed cables (up to 60kV).

The test method gives powerful and useful feedback of the condition of the cable insulation and accessories (joints, terminations) without potentially damaging the insulation system as other high voltage tests can. Trend analysis through repeat visits over the life time of HV asset will provide useful confidence for continued use and to contribute to planned preventative maintenance.

Our equipment is also perfectly suited to the marine industry where space and access can be an issue.

Low impact

Rather than subjecting the cable insulation to potentially damaging test voltages over sustained periods of time as used in pressure testing, our portable test set operates at and around system voltage for only a few minutes per test.

Simple, fast condition assessment

In accordance with IEC 60270 recommendations, the measurement circuit detects PD pulses which occur during the test period. By adopting time domain reflectometry, a location map of any PD activity and/or cable fault can be generated. Values of capacitance and tan δ (disspiation factor) are also measured and calculated.
